Twenty years after Chidinma Sunday was abandoned at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where he was admitted, he has gained admission into Ben Idahosa University, Benin, Edo State, southern Nigeria, to study English Language.

He was admitted at LUTH on 24 March, 1994. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and he was paraplegic.

Chidinma was found with a note indicating that he was abandoned by his parents because they had no money to treat him and since then none of them has showed up.

However, by divine intervention, Chidinma has overcome his difficult childhood and hopes to become great, now that he is studying in the university.

He attended primary and secondary schools through the assistance of well meaning Nigerians.

Sources disclosed that LUTH management provided medical care and an enabling environment for him to return to the hospital whenever he was on holiday.

And after completing his secondary education, Chidinma faced the challenge of gaining admission into the university.

Help came his way again after an article written by Corporate Service Division of LUTH and published in Punch newspaper drew attention to Chidinma’s plight.

After reading the article, a Nigerian, who does not want his name mentioned, decided to assist Chidinma and facilitated his admission into the university.

Chidinma left LUTH finally on 26 September, 2013 in company of a medical social worker to start a new life in the university.

He joined his fellow ‘Jambites’ to matriculate as an undergraduate on 29 November, 2013.

“I am excited about overcoming my challenges. I thank LUTH and other Nigerians for their support,” he told P.M.NEWS this morning on phone, and declined to speak extensively on how he weathered the storms to get to where he is now.
