Goals from Edin Dzeko and Premier League player of the year contender Yaya Toure helped Manchester City to a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace and get them within three points of the top spot.

Following Chelsea’s well-earned win at title rivals Liverpool, City knew a win at Selhurst Park would put their title fate back in their hands and the Citizens duly delivered through two first half goals.

The result leaves third placed Man. City – that also have a game in hand on their rivals – just three points behind leaders Liverpool as the title race is now set to go to the wire this season and possibly decided on goal difference; with City having the advantage there.

Meanwhile in Spain, Atletico Madrid maintained their charge towards a first league title in 18 years after claiming a lone goal win at Europa League semi-finalists Valencia.

Raul Garcia scored the winner for the La Liga leaders in the first half and send Atletico six points clear of second placed city rivals Real Madrid, albeit having played a game more.

Third placed Barcelona, whose former manager Tito Vilanova died of throat cancer on Thursday, can however reduce Atletico’s lead to four points if they can defeat a Villarreal side currently in seventh place and chasing a place in next season’s Europa League.

And in France, Paris St. Germain missed out on claiming the Ligue 1 title for a second successive season after being held to a 1-1 draw at strugglers Sochaux.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani had put the Parisians ahead in the first half only for PSG captain Thiago Silva to put one past his goalkeeper early in the second half.

PSG, who won the Coupe de la Ligue last weekend, will however seal a domestic double with a win in their next league match at home to Rennes on May 7.
