Sharks remain top of the Nigeria Premier League despite dropping points on matchday 11 while seven goals were scored in Benin in the match between Bayelsa United and Rangers.

In Port-Harcourt, Sharks were held to a 1-1 draw by Enyimba but maintained top spot after second placed Warri Wolves got beaten 2-0 in Uyo by Akwa United courtesy of a brace by Ubong Ekpai.

Ajani Ibrahim had put Sharks ahead with a header after 16 minutes while Andrew Abalogu got the equaliser for Enyimba 10 minutes before half time.

While there was no trouble during the match, an Enyimba fan was wounded after the match after being stabbed in the back as fans of both sides got involved in a scuffle.

The match of the day meanwhile came from the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin where the ‘home’ side Bayelsa United came out 4-3 winners over Rangers of Enugu.

Rangers had taken an early lead through Uzoenyi but goals from Sobomabo West and Peter Ebimobowie with a brace put Bayelsa 3-1 up before Osaguona Ighodaro pulled a goal back for Rangers and leave scores at 3-2 by half time.

Midway through the second half, Ebitimi Agogu made it 4-2 for Bayelsa five minutes after coming on for Ebimobowie while Abubakar Umar scored a stoppage time goal for Rangers.

In matches played elsewhere today, Lobi Stars played out a 1-1 draw at home to Sunshine Stars while Heartland won by a lone goal at home to Giwa FC through a first half penalty scored by Bright Ejike.

Kaduna United and Nasarawa United also won by a lone goal each, both courtesy of penalties as well, against Dolphins and El-Kanemi Warriors respectively.

With the results so far, Sharks are top of the Nigeria Premier League with 19 points from 11 matches and are now followed by Akwa United and Nasarawa United that both have 18 points from 11 matches, with Akwa in second place thanks to a better goal difference.
