Germany Release Provisional World Cup Squad List

Germany coach Joachim Löw has revealed a 30-man provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, consisting of Mario Götze, Mesut Özil, Marco Reus, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manuel Neuer and Andre Schürrle among others.

Surprise inclusions in the squad include André Hahn of Augsburg and Freiburg’s Kevin Volland, Borussia Monchengladbach forward Max Kruse and Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez are among notable names not called up by Löw.

Also not called up are Borussia Dortmund midfield duo Sven Bender and İlkay Gündoğan, goalkeepers Marc-André ter Stegen and Rene Adler as well as Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kießling who already declared he won’t play for Löw again.

Löw is expected to trim the 30-man squad to 25 or 26 players after the German Cup final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund on May 17 before deciding his final 23-man squad before FIFA’s June 2 deadline.

Germany is in Group G of the 2014 World Cup alongside Portugal, the United States and Ghana.
