One of Nigeria’s opponent in Group F of the 2014 World Cup, Iran have named their provisional squad to prepare for the tournament kicking off on June 12 in Brazil.
Coached by former Real Madrid and Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz, Iran’s squad is made up of 18 home-based players and 10 foreign-based ones including Fulham’s Ashkan Dejagah and Sardar Azmoun of Russian side Rubin Kazan.
Iran will open a training camp in Austria later this month and play friendly matches against Belarus on May 18 and Montenegro on May 26 in preparation for the mundial.
Queiroz’s men will also come up against Angola on May 30, the final match before the squad is trimmed to a maximum of 23 players, then wrap up their preparations with a match against Trinidad and Tobago on June 8.
The Arab nation will open their World Cup campaign against Nigeria – that released a 30-man list last night – on June 16, before facing Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina in their other group matches.
