FIFA President Sepp Blatter could see himself remain in the post indefinitely after proposals to consider age and term limits for the top office was rejected during the 64th FIFA Congress in Sao Paolo Brazil.

It has long been unclear whether 78-year old Blatter, who has been FIFA President for 18 years, would run for a fifth term in office or step down when the time for elections come in 2015.

Ahead of the Congress, delegates from European confederation, UEFA had called on Blatter to keep his promise made in 2011 and not run for another term in office at next year’s elections.

But with the proposals to put a cap on age and number of terms one can be in office failing to get majority votes that would see it forwarded to next year’s Congress, remains to be seen if Blatter would run for a fifth term next year or step down.

Blatter’s presidency has been riddled with corruption allegations, especially in the process which led to Qatar being awarded the hosting rights for the 2022 World Cup, with the Swiss man branding recent newspaper reports on the issue as ‘racist’.

FIFA however have launched an investigation into the allegations and a report is expected to be submitted in July.
