Students of Lagos State University, Thursday, took their protest to Lagos State Government office in Alausa, Ikeja.

The over 250 students brought a new turn to their protest by cooking food in front of the Governor’s office, while they sit and chant anti-government songs.

The students protesting over the fees of over N250,000, imposed on them in 2011, vowed not to back out of their agitation until the Lagos State Government approved their proposed modest increase in school fees from N25, 000 to N46, 500.

A source close to the government said the committee set up by Lagos State government and headed by the Commissioner of Transport, Kayode Opeifa, in its report would be proposing a 30 per cent reduction in the current fees paid by students.

“It is either N46,500 or nothing, we are not accepting anything more or less,” Comrade Nurudeen Yusuf, President, Lagos State University Student Union, told P.M. NEWS via a phone conversation.

Addressing the protesting students, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee constituted by the state Executive Council on review of LASU tuition and Commissioner of Transport, Kayode Opeifa, said that his report would be submitted on Monday. He urged the students to be patient till June 9, when the report would be officially presented.

Opeifa added that the Fashola administration is not insensitive to the students’ demands.
