Dzeko, Messi Named in Final Lists of Nigeria's Opponents

Opponents of Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 2014 World Cup, Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran have submitted their final 23-man squad for the World Cup to FIFA in line with the June 2 deadline.

Favourites Argentina included Barcelona ace Lionel Messi as expected, alongside Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín, Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero, Rodrigo Palacio of Inter Milan and Ezequiel Lavezzi of PSG in a fearsome attacking line-up.

Real Madrid midfielder Angel di Maria also made the Argentina list, as did Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia, Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay and Manchester City defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago made the final list as well having just recovered from a knee injury while Newell’s Old Boys midfielder Ever Banega was left out of the final squad.

Banega, who is on-loan to Newell’s from Valencia, was joined out of the final Argentina squad by Atletico Madrid’s Jose Sosa and Atletico Mineiro defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Argentina begin their World Cup campaign against Bosnia, who named Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko and AS Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic in their final World Cup squad.

Other notable names in Bosnia’s final squad are Osaze Odemwingie’s Stoke City teammate Asmir Begovic, Lazio midfielder Senad Lulic, Stuttgart striker Vedad Ibisevic and Bayer Leverkusen defender Emir Spahic.

Ashkan Dejagah meanwhile headlines Iran’s final squad to the World Cup, with the Fulham forward named by Queiroz along with Charlton Athletic striker Reza Ghoochannejhad and Eintracht Braunschweig goalkeeper Daniel Davari.
