The South African Football Association have announced it will not renew the contract of coach Gordon Igesund, thus ending the 57 year old’s two years at the helm of the national team.

The parting with Igesund comes after failing to meet SAFA’s expectations at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and 2014 Africa Nations Championship, both of which were hosted by South Africa.

With a semi-final appearance the minimum expectation, South Africa instead only made the last eight of the 2013 Nations Cup, following that up by getting knocked out of the group stage of CHAN 2014 by Nigeria.

The Bafana Bafana also failed to make the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after losing out to Ethiopia in the penultimate round of qualifying, despite Ethiopia getting a points deduction before then.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan has stated that the process of finding a new coach will begin immediately, with speculation that Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi and Iran’s Carlos Queiroz are being considered as replacement.
