MADRID – Spanish top flight club Valencia have appointed former Portuguese goalkeeper Nuno as their new coach, the La Liga side confirmed.Nuno_PortugeseGoalKeeper

“Valencia Football Club have reached agreement with Nuno Espirito Santo for a contract until June 30, 2015 with an option for a further season depending on results,” the club said on their website.

The 40-year-old, who coached Portuguese club Rio Ave since 2012, will be officially presented on Friday.

He takes over from Argentine Antonio Pizzi, who was sacked earlier this week after just over six months.

Pizzi took over from Serb Miroslav Djukic, who was also sacked after six months in the job.

Singaporean businessman Peter Lim took a controlling stake of the financially-stricken club, who finished eighth in La Liga, last May.
