Iheanacho Stars For Man. City in Friendly Win

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho played all 90 minutes and scored a goal as Manchester City got a 4-1 win at Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas in a pre-season friendly encounter.

Iheanacho’s goal came in the 88th minute to wrap up the tie for the Premier League champions that are on a US tour in preparation for the coming 2014-15 season.

Bruno Zuculini gave Man. City an early lead in Kansas, with goals either side of half-time from defenders Derdryk Boyata and Aleksandr Kolarov with a penalty opening a two-goal cushion for Manuel Pellegrini’s side after Charles Sapong had equalised on the half-hour mark for Sporting Kansas.

Also in the US is city rivals Manchester United, with the Red Devils easing to a 7-0 thrashing of Los Angeles Galaxy in a win that left new manager Louis van Gaal very pleased.

New signing Ander Herrera scored a goal and provided three more in a starring role for United while Wayne Rooney, substitute Ashley Young and youngster Reece James each scored a brace in the match.

Danny Welbeck also scored a goal for the 20-time English champions in a win that saw van Gaal adopt the 3-5-2 formation he used with the Netherlands at the recent World Cup to good effect, playing Johnny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the centre with Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia deployed as wingbacks.

In another pre-season friendly match, a late Marco Borriello goal saw Liverpool lose by a lone goal to AS Roma in a match that saw Ashley Cole start for Roma while Fabio Borini suffered a shoulder injury early on to put his expected £14m move to Sunderland in doubt.

Tottenham Hotspur managed a 3-2 win at MLS side Toronto FC with Argentine forward Erik Lamela giving Tottenham 2-0 first half lead before two goals in seven second half minutes saw Toronto FC level the match with 17 minutes left to play.

The goals from Andrew Wiedeman and Jordan Hamilton were however in vain as Andros Townsend came up with a late winner to give Tottenham a thrilling win.

Elsewhere, Nigerian international Sone Aluko scored in Hull City’s 2-0 win at York City, Turkish Cup holders Galatasaray lost 3-1 at Rapid Vienna, Olympique Marseille got a 2-1 win over Benfica and Paris St. Germain edged to a 2-1 win over fellow French side OGC Nice.
