Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is among prominent Nigerians who have been commenting on the recent bombings in Kano and Adamawa, the nation’s northern region, by suspected Boko Haram Islamic sect.

The political leader Monday on Social Media, condemned the activities of the insurgents saying he agrees with “the Sultan of Sokoto and president-general, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar (III)” that “anybody who bombs himself thinking he will make heaven is delusional.

“I completely agree with the Sultan. His position is consistent with that of the World Islamic Council,” said the former vice president on Twitter.

Extending his condolence to the people of Kano over the latest multiple bomb explosion in the state on Monday, Abubakar said “The murders on this day of celebration must be condemned, and perpetrators brought to justice.”

While expressing concern at the heightening state of insecurity in parts of the north stemming from persistent attacks by insurgents the former vice president said I am deeply disturbed by the fatal shooting of protesters in Zaria (referring to the incident of July 26 in Kaduna).

He noted that it was important that “religious leaders preach calm, and restrain their followers from activities which disturb the peace.

“The incident needs to be thoroughly investigated by the authorities, in order to restore calm and public trust in law enforcement,” he said.

Kano State  acting governor Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has also described the multiple bomb explosion in Kano on Monday, as “unfortunate.”

The acting governor stated this when he visited the NNPC Mega Filling Station, the scene of  one of the blasts, to assess the situation.

He said government would deploy gadgets in some strategic places in the commercial city to detect criminals, advising residents to be extra vigilant on the happenings in their respective surroundings.

He commended the security agencies for their poor efforts in checking the activities of insurgents in the state.

Ganduje said the timely intervention of security agents at the NNPC Mega station was worthy of commendation, stressing that the action helped to save several lives.

The acting governor also visited Kofar Nasarawa and some of the injured victims receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad hospital.

He promised the victims that government would offset their medical bills.

The state Police Commissioner Mr Aderenle Shinaba, heads of security agencies and some members of the state Executive council accompanied Ganduje President Goodluck Jonathan earlier.
