Neymar, James Rodriguez Nominated for Golden Ball Award

Colombia’s star performer at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, James Rodriguez and Brazil star Neymar are among 10 players nominated for the Golden Ball award for best player at the World Cup in a list dominated by finalists Germany and Argentina.

Rodriguez, who is on course to also win the Golden Shoe award courtesy of six goals in five matches, is in contention for the Golden Ball award alongside Germany’s Thomas Müller, Argentine duo Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria as well as injured Brazil talisman Neymar.

Neymar on his part had scored four goals in five matches before having his campaign ended with a broken veetebra sustained from a Juan Zuniga challenge during a quarter-final match against Colombia.

Also nominated for the award are German captain Philipp Lahm and compatriots Toni Kroos and Mats Hummels. Arjen Robben of the Netherlands is also nominated as is Argentina’s Javier Mascherano.

The winner of the Golden Ball award will be announced after Sunday’s final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Among the players that missed out on nomination are Juan Cuardado of Colombia and French duo Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena.
