Nigeria Football Federation has mandated its Technical Sub-committee to begin talks with Stephen Keshi in view of renewing the coach’s contract with the national team.

The mandate emanates from a meeting of the NFF Executive Committee held in Abuja on Thursday, with the NFF stating in a communique that it remains interested in working with Keshi.

The NFF Technical Sub-committee is expected to report back on its negotiations with Keshi to the NFF Executive Committee ‘within a week’.

Keshi signed on as Super Eagles coach in 2011 and led the team to a third Cup of African Nations triumph in South Africa in 2013, a third place finish at the 2014 Africa Nations Championship and a second round place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The former Mali and Togo coach had previously stated he would be interested in extending his contract with the NFF as long as the Glass House made an offer.

Meanwhile, the NFF Technical Sub-committee was also mandated to begin talks with a number of African nations in view of organising a friendly for the Super Eagles in August as part of preparations for the 2015 Cup of African Nations qualifiers.
