Kano – Kola nut traders in Kano on Tuesday decried the poor patronage and sales of their product due to the ongoing Ramadan fast, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Some of the traders in Kano metropolis told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the current fasting period had affected their business as they were not making huge sales as before.

One of the traders, Malam Musa Bala, said the number of hawkers who used to purchase the commodity from them had drastically reduced.

“Most of those who eat Kola nut are Muslims and majority have stopped eating it until after the Ramadan period.

“We used to make a lot of sales during weddings and naming ceremonies, but now many people especially Muslims no longer patronise us probably until after the fasting period,’’ he said.

Another trader, Hajiya Hauwa Usman, also expressed concern over the low patronage, saying that she used to make about N20,000 a day beforethe commencement of Ramadan fast, but she hardly record make N5,000 daily now.

“This is one of the challenges of the business and we hope that sales will improve after the Ramadan,” Usman said.
