Luiz Felipe Scolari has left his position as coach of the Brazil national team according to a report from Brazilian media after the Football Federation decided not to renew his contract which ended with the World Cup.

Scolari managed to lead Brazil to only a fourth place finish at the World Cup, losing 7-1 in the semi-final to eventual champions Germany before losing 3-0 to the Netherlands in the third place play-off.

The former Portugal and Chelsea manager was appointed for a second stint as Brazil coach in 2012, 10 years after leading the South American giants to success at the 2002 World Cup co-hosted by Korea and Japan.

But heavy criticism over his squad selections for the World Cup along with the defeats to Germany and Netherlands have cost Scolari his position with the national team.
