Two members of the Ogun State House of Assembly may be suspended  over their recent comments which were considered reckless and injurious to the State government.

The two members who were being investigated by the Committee of the whole House are Job Olufemi Akintan, the Minority Leader of the House, who represents Egbado North II State Constituency and  Remmy Hazzan from Odogbolu State Constituency.

Hazzan, an immediate former Deputy Speaker of the House,who has defected to Labour Party from All Progressives Congress, APC, was on Monday quizzed by the Assembly over an allegation that the  government has accumulated   a debt of  N300 billion.

The lawmaker allegedly made the statement during a Labour Party rally in Sagamu.

The Minority Leader was being investigated for a post on his Facebook page, where he alleged  that there were scammers in the House.

A member of the House who confirmed the investigation on condition of anonymity told our correspondent that Hazzan denied ever making such statement.

He added that the Assembly was on the trail of evidence against the lawmakers after which resolutions will be made to punish them.

Contrary to his denial before the whole House on Monday, the lawmaker,  Hazzan posted on his Facebook page few minutes later, “I insist,Ogun State is indebted in excess of N300 billion. Let propagandist twist anything. KSR was never on trial anywhere. Parochial packaging last only a little while”, he wrote.

According to the source, “Yes, the matter was raised in the House and a newspaper was presented as evidence. We considered that this has brought the House into disrepute and that was why two of them were summoned by the Committee of the whole House.

“Remmy Hazzan allegedly made a statement that the State government has accessed loans to the tune of N300 billion, but when he was invited, he denied ever making such statement, but we are already looking for evidence against him.

“Job Akintan on the other side went of Facebook and said there were scammers in the House, we want him to come and explain what he meant by the statement, but he was not around when the Assembly summoned them”, the source narrated.

When asked what the punishment is likely to be, the lawmaker said, “It is outright suspension or to issue a last warning, but Remmy Hazzan has not been in the good book of the House, this is not the first time he will be making such unguarded statement”, he declared.

When our correspondent contacted the lawmaker to react to the development, his mobile line was not going but the Minority Leader, Hon. Job Akintan, disclosed that he was not aware of the summon, added that he has been out of the town for sometimes now.
