Spanish duo Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas starred on their debuts as Chelsea came from a goal down overcome Burnley 3-1 in Monday night’s Premier League match at Turf Moor.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also made his long-awaited debut for Chelsea following three years on loan at Atletico Madrid, though it remains to be seen if that spells the end of Petr Cech as the Blues’ first choice goalkeeper.

And following a waved aside penalty appeal from the Chelsea players, it took only 14 minutes for Courtois’ debut to be tarnished as Scott Arfield put the newly promoted side in front with a well struck volley.

Burnley’s lead however lasted only three minutes, with Costa pouncing on a rebound to equalise for Chelsea before Andre Schürrle put Chelsea in front three minutes later off a Cesc Fabregas pass at thr end of a long and well worked build-up.

Fabregas, who previously had a seven-year spell at London rivals Arsenal, got a second assist 35 minutes into his second Premier League debut when Branislav Ivanovic stabbed home the Spaniard’s cornerkick to give Chelsea a 3-1 lead.

The rest of the match saw Chelsea content with maintaining the scoreline and that’s how it stayed till the end to leave Mourinho’s side top of the league ahead of Manchester City by virtue of goals scored.

Afterwards, Chelsea captain John Terry stated “I think that was some of the best football we’ve played at Chelsea. Our target is to win the League”

Chelsea will next face Leicester City; another newly promoted side, in its next Premier League match on Saturday while Burnley visit Swansea City also on Saturday.
