Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been awarded the UEFA Best Player prize for the 2013-14 season in Monaco, France ahead of Bayern Munich duo Manuel Neuer and Arjen Robben.
Ronaldo was presented with the award following the draws for the group stage of the 2014-15 UEFA Champions League, in which his club Real Madrid was pitched with five-time champions Liverpool, Swiss champions FC Basel and minnows Ludogorets.
Speaking after receiving the award, Ronaldo said “I’m really really happy. I have to say thank you to my team-mates, because without the team individual awards are impossible.”
The Portuguese international, who is also the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, scored a record 17 goals in last season’s competition, including one in the 4-1 win over city rivals Atletico Madrid in the final.
