Camerounian striker Samuel Eto’o has signed a two-year contract with Premier League club Everton and is now in line to face former club Chelsea in a league match this weekend.

Eto’o featured for Chelsea last season following his move from Russian side Anzhi, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances before being released by the Londoners in July.

Speaking on the deal, Everton manager Roberto Martinez stated Eto’o still has the hunger to play football like when he first when to Spain, where the striker began his career.

“For someone who has achieved nearly everything, he still has the desire he had at 15 when he went to Spain and showed what he could do. For many reasons he has got a point to prove” said Martinez.

On his part, Eto’o stated “I have been very impressed by the style of play Everton adopt. I could see straight away that at this club I will have the opportunity to play football.”

The 33-year old added, “I was impressed with his enthusiasm but also by the knowledge of football that Roberto Martinez carries, his vision of football and how he reads football. I still think I can learn a great deal from him here.”

Eto’o will link up with another former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku at Everton, to where he brings a vast experience from spells at Real Mallorca, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

The Cameroun international has, among others, won three UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, one Serie A title, Olympic gold medal at Sydney 2000 and was also named African Footballer of the Year four times.
