Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has implored businessmen to start importing digital television sets as the country prepares to switch over to digital broadcast in 2015.

The Director General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr Chris Mba, made call at an enlightenment forum on Digital Switch Over (DSO) in Shendam, Plateau South, on Saturday.

Mba, represented by Director of Public Affairs, Mr Auwalu Salihu, said businessmen should start importing digital television to replace the analogue sets.

According to him, digital sets will improve reception and the viewing of programmes of all TV stations across the country.

“The whole world will go digital by June 2015 and only digital TV sets will be reigning, so we don’t want a situation where people will be struggling with antennas to get signals.

“Our businessmen must stop importing analogue television sets because their era is over not only in Nigeria but the world over’’, he said.

He said the commission would not take it lightly with businessmen who might indulge in selling analogue sets to unsuspecting members of the public in the name of digital sets.

Mba called on the public to be vigilant when buying new TV sets henceforth.

He said the commission planned to ensure that all digital TV sets had NBC special stickers/seals for easy identification by the general public.
