The Speaker of the Taraba House of Assembly, Josiah Kente has set up a five-man medical panel to verify the health status of Gov. Danbaba Suntai.

Kente said the action followed the resolution of the State Executive Council meeting of Sept. 10.

Suntai is believed to be drain damaged as a result of the accident he sustained from a plane crash on 25 October, 2012.

Following the provisions of the Nigerian constitution he is thus ruled to be incapacitated to continue to rule the state. The deputy governor, Umar Garba has been directing state affairs since then.

The latest proof was on his arrival in Abuja last week from the United Kingdom, when he was incoherent about where he had come from. He told his listeners: “I have just arrived from Abuja…”, to the embarrassment of his handlers who appear bent to re-instal him as the governor.

Kente said he evoked the provisions of section 189 (b) and 189 (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, requesting him to constitute such a medical panel.

“I have set up the medical panel in line with the resolution of the state executive meeting of Sept. 10 which requested me to do so,” he said.

The panel has Prof. Bala Shehu as Chairman.

Other members are the personal physician of Suntai, Dr Ahmed Kara, Prof. Peter Alabi, Dr Shehu Sule and Dr Inusa Samaila.

The statement also said the panel would soon be inaugurated.

Suntai had survived a plane crash on Oct. 25, 2012 and had returned to the state after receiving treatment in Germany and the US.

He was later flown to London for further treatment and only recently returned to the country, still sounding incoherent.
