Philipp Lahm and Mario Götze each scored twice as Bayern Munich cruised to a 6-0 demolition of Werder Bremen in Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena while arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund fell to a fifth league defeat of the season at FC Köln.

Regardless of a daunting trip to face AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, Bayern was in relentless form to crush the Bundesliga’s bottom club that offered no resistance in the match.

Lahm put the Bavarians ahead when David Alaba and Thomas Müller combined to set up the Bayern captain who scored from just insie the Bremen area in the 20th minute.

Xabi Alonso scored his first ever Bundesliga goal with a low freekick to double Bayern’s lead six minutes later while Müller made it 3-0just before half-time with a penalty earned after he was fouled by Sebastian Prodl.

Götze got his first of the evening with a stunning curler on the stroke of half-time while further goals in the closing 10 minutes of the match from Lahm and Götze sealed a big win for the league leaders.

The result marked a fourth successive season Bayern would score six goals in the Allianz Arena against Bremen that remains without a win after eight matches this season.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, the return of Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gundogan from injury was still unable to prevent Dortmund from a fourth defeat in its last five matches.

The Bumblebees have made a torrid start to the league season and despite dominating possession, fell behind just before half-time to a Kevin Vogt goal for Köln.

Jürgen Klopp’s men continued to have the upperhand in play and soon got reward when a Reus cut-back found Ciro Immobile who calmly placed the ball over the Köln goalkeeper to pull Dortmund level three minutes into the second half.

Any hopes of turning its bad fortune in the league was however dashed in the 74th minute when a costly error from goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller allowed Simon Zoller to reach Yuya Osako ball in and score the winner.

In other Bundesliga matches played on Saturday, a game of two halves saw Bayer Leverkusen squander a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at VfB Stuttgart while second placed Borussia Monchengladbach prepared for next weekend’s clash with Bayern with a 3-0 win at Hannover 96.

Mainz 05 won 2-1 at home to Augsburg, Wolfsburg won bythe same score at SC Freiburg while goals in each half from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Julian Draxler gave Schalke 04 a 2-0 win at home to Hertha Berlin in the late kick-off.
