He succeeded the former Wambai, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who is now the Galadiman Kano, following the death of Alhaji Tijjani Hashim who held that position.

The emir also elevated the new Wambai from District Head of Dala to the District
Head of Kano Municipal (Birni da Kewaye).

At the occasion, the emir said that the decision to appoint Bayero was in recognition of his tireless efforts toward the development of the Kano Emirate Council.

Sanusi II urged the new appointee not to relent in his effort toward ensuring peace and development of the emirate.

Sanusi also called on him to continue to give useful advice to other members of the emirate for the development of the state.

He also called on him to give priority attention to the issue of girl-child education, adding that educating a girl-child was like educating the society.

Responding, the new Wambai thanked the emir for the appointment and promised to ensure justice and fairness to all in his domain.
