Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba denied Tottenham Hotspur all three points with a late penalty for Besiktas at White Hart Lane while Samuel Eto’o was on target as Everton salvaged a 1-1 from its trip to Russian club Krasnodar in the UEFA Europa League tonight.

Spurs took the lead through Harry Kane’s solo effort in the 27th minute and held on to it for long periods, thanks largely to goalkeeper Hugo Lloris who kept out efforts from Olcay Sahan and Ba as the Turks laid siege on the Londoners goal afterwards in search of an equaliser.

Lloris however was eventually beaten by Ba with a 90th minute spot-kick which came from Vlad Chiriches handling the ball.

The result leaves Spurs in third place with two points from two matches in Group C, behind Besiktas by virtue of goals scored, while Asteras Tripolis lead the group with four points following a 2-0 win at home to Partizan Beograd.

Elsewhere, Eto’o scored in the 82nd minute to earn Everton a 1-1 draw at Krasnodar in a Group H match at the Kuban Stadium, tapping in a cross from Leighton Baines to cancel out Ari’s 42nd minute opener for the home side.

The result was enough to keep Everton top of the group with four points, ahead of Krasnodar with two points, while Lille follows with two points as well after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Wolfsburg in a match that saw Kevin De Bruyne score a sensational equaliser for the German club.

Elsewhere in the Europa League tonight, Gerard Moreno and Jose Espinosa each scored a goal in each half to help Villarreal to a 4-0 thrashing of Appollon Limassol in Group A while Marek Hamsik inspired Napoli to a 2-0 win at Slovan Bratislava in Group I.

Inter Milan bounced back from a shock 4-1 loss at home to Cagliari at the weekend to overcome Azerbaijan club Qarabağ in a Group F match while St. Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier saved a penalty in the goalless draw with Dnipro in the other Group F match.

Stephane Mbia scored in stoppage time to earn Europa League holders Sevilla a 2-2 draw at Rejika in Group G while Celtic won by a lone goal at home to Dinamo Zagreb, as did Torino and Dinamo Moscow at home to FC Koebenhavn and PSV Eindhoven respectively.
