Enyimba’s quest to win the 2014 Nigeria Premier League title suffered a blow in a loss at Gombe United this evening, with title rivals Nasarawa United taking advantage of that result in a win over Nembe City.

The Aba Elephants fell to a 2-1 loss at Gombe United to drop to fourth with 48 points, a point and place behind Nasarawa United that won 3-2 at home to bottom club Nembe City courtesy of a stoppage time Esosa goal in Lafia.

Following a goalless first half in Gombe, Babalo Haruna put the home side ahead with a penalty in the 66th minute after James Atamba is adjudged to have handled Sani Yarma’s ball in the area.

In-form striker Mfon Udoh equalised for the Aba Elephants 10 minutes from time with his 15th goal of the season but Gombe United regained the lead four minutes to the end through another penalty converted by Austin Ekpoma.

Despite the loss, Enyimba remain ahead of Abia Warriors and Dolphins on goal difference, with Dolphins losing 2-0 at 10-man FC Taraba while Abia Warriors drew goalless at Akwa United in Uyo.

Seventh placed Sharks is now on 48 points also, following a 1-0 win over league leaders Kano Pillars with Giwa FC also on 48 points in eighth spot on the league after playing out a 1-1 draw with Crown FC in Ibadan.

Elsewhere in the Premier League this evening, Happy Okuoka scored twice to help Heartland to a 3-0 win over Sunshine Stars in Owerri while Enugu Rangers lost 2-0 at Lobi Stars in Makurdi.

And in Kaduna, Kaduna United duo Nasiru Shehu and Arinze Nwangwu hit the woodwork in the first half and missed a second half penalty respectively as the home side somehow played out a goalless draw at home to El-Kanemi Warriors.
