The Kano State Government, in northwest Nigeria has directed all public and private schools in the state to reopen on Monday 13 October.

The Deputy Director, Public Relations Department, state Ministry of Education, Hajiya Hadiza Habib, in a statement in Kano on Sunday said “All schools in the state, both public and private, have been directed to reopen on Sunday and Monday, 12th and 13th Oct. 2014 for boarding and day students, respectively.

“This will mark the beginning of 2014/2015 academic session,’’ the statement said.

The statement, however, directed only SS-3 students of GGSS Unguwa Uku and GGSS Danzabuwa to resume, while the rest of the students in these schools should await further directive.

The statement explained that the state government had taken all necessary measures for the resumption of the schools.

It then urged parents, teachers and students to cooperate and complement government’s effort towards proving quality education to its citizenry.

Resumption in schools in Nigeria was delayed because of Ebola virus and the Eid el-Kabir holiday. Most schools opened on Wednesday 8 October.
