Lawyers to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board led by Amaju Pinnick said on Friday they have finally filed a “Stay of Execution’’ at the Federal High Court in Jos.

In a statement in Abuja by NFF’s Assistant Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, the Pinnick-led board said the move was in response to the court’s decision of Thursday.

The court had annulled the board’s Sept. 30 elections which brought the body to office.

“NFF’s lawyers went to work immediately the ruling was made on Thursday and were able to file for the `Stay of Execution’ on Friday,’’ the statement said.

It added that the court has now set Oct. 29 for hearing of the “Stay of Execution’’.

The development was the latest in the crisis which has engulfed the Nigerian football family since the end of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup last July.

The Chris Giwa-led NFF board, which was elected on Aug. 26 in Abuja to replace the Aminu Maigari-led NFA board, had sought the court’s intervention after FIFA upturned its mandate.

It had on Sept. 19 secured the court’s ruling asking the Maigari-led board not to go ahead with its Sept. 30 Elective Congress as directed by FIFA.

Justice Ambrose Alagoa had, in reaction to the Sept. 30 event, then annulled the decisions of the Elective Congress.

It also fixed next month for hearing in both the contempt suit and the substantive case
