Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has apologised to his Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho for shoving him in the early stages of the recent Premier League match between both men’s teams which Chelsea won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Wenger had been infuriated by a tackle on Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez by Chelsea defender Gary Cahill near the touchline area, with Wenger supposedly trying to get closer when the incident with Mourinho occurred.

The 64-year old refused to comment on the incident initially but has now apologised, saying, ”I shouldn’t have reacted like that,” before adding, ”I regret every sign of violence and I apologize. Did Mourinho taunt me? It felt like that.”

Both managers, who have had previous verbal spats in a rivalry spanning 10 years, had to be separated by the fourth official and were subsequently spoken to by match referee Martin Atkinson.

Wenger meanwhile stated the club would follow recommendations by their specialist regarding playmaker Mesut Özil’s knee injury, which has sidelined the 25-year old for 10-12 weeks.

“When [Özil] arrived with the German national team, they didn’t think it was a lot at the start,” Wenger said, adding ”Then he had a scan and it was bad news. We have our own specialist giving us his opinion and we will follow our own recommendations.”

Özil is among a number of first team players out injured forthe Gunners, though English forward Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry have resumed training after recovering from respective long-term injuries while captain Mikel Arteta and midfielder Aaron Ramsey are close to recovering as well.
