Southampton ended a run of five successive defeats in a 3-0 win at home to Everton while Charlie Austin scored a hattrick as Queens Park Rangers came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 win over West Brom elsewhere in the Premier League on Saturday.

At St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton went looking to halt a free fall in form and were sent on their way through an own goal from Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in the 38th minute.

Further goals from Graziano Pelle and Maya Yoshida sealed a comprehensive win for the Saints who remain in fifth place with 29 points, two behind fourth placed West Ham that won 2-0 at home to Leicester City.

Meanwhile at Loftus Road, Stephane Sessegnon had a hand in the opening two goals, with Joleon Lescott heading West Brom ahead after 10 minutes off a flicked header from the Benin international.

Silvestre Varela then exchanged passes with Sessegnon before putting the Baggies 2-0 up after 20 minutes as the visitors looked to compound QPR’s relegation worries.

But Austin pulled a goal back for QPR four minutes later from the penalty spot before completing his hattrick and a dramatic comeback for the Londoners with a second half brace.

Elsewhere in the Premier League on Saturday, Erik Lamela’s first Premier League goal gave Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win over Burnley while a deflected effort from Jonjo Shelvey was enough to give Swansea City a lone goal win at Hull City.
