Governor Jonah Jang: Plateau now Jang enterprise

Governor of the central Nigerian state of Plateau, Mr. Jonah Jang, has laid the political precedence by naming his son as a commissioner in his administration, a clear violation of section 14(4) of the Nigerian constitution, which compels the need for appointments to reflect the diversity of a state.

But Jang glossing over this section has made his son Yakubu the commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning.

Before this latest appointment, Jang had made Yakubu, his Special Adviser on Special Duties.

In the ministry, Yakubu, according to the Commissioner for Information. Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, will take over from Mr. Yilji Gomwalk, who has been picked as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for the 2015 governorship election, Mr. Gyang Pwajok.

It was not the first time Jonah Jang will etch his name in Nigeria’s record books, for the wrong reason.

He was the governor who declared himself chairman of the Governors Forum after winning 16 votes, as against Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who won 19 votes.
