Nigeria’s former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida has urged Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan in his bid for re-election, describing him as a lover of the country.

Babangida said this Saturday, when Jonathan in company of his aides visited him at his Hilltop mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital.

The self-styled former Military President, that Major General Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate described as his greatest ‘political enemy’, said that Jonathan loved and meant well for Nigeria.

President Jonathan had told newsmen that he visited “his father” – Gen. Babangida, to greet him as he recently returned from abroad on a medical vacation.

The President was accompanied by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); his Chief of Staff, Gen. Jones Arogbofa (retd.); the Director-General of Jonathan campaign Organization, Senator Ahmadu Ali and FCT Minister, Senator Bala Muhammed. The President and his team had a closed-door parley with their host, Gen Babangida.

The Babangida endorsement triggered a rash of comments in social media.

“Power and money in the long run will fail.IBB is truly now a shadow of himself. President Jonathan must learn from him and not cling to power by all means. Give us a credible election and accept whatever becomes the outcome”, said a commentator based in Ibadan, Oyo state.

“President Jonathan has finally gone back to meet with his ancestors – the maradonas of this world, shameless rotten politicians. They will never offer Nigerians anything good. Jonathan was a child of necessity,” wrote yet another.
