Manchester City threw away a two-goal lead as well as a chance to come within a point of Chelsea at the top of the league in a 2-2 draw at home to lowly Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.

With Chelsea held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton in the mid-afternoon kick-off, City looked set to close the gap on Chelsea as goals from David Silva and Fernandinho put the champions 2-0 up by half-time.

But second half goals from George Boyd and Ashley Barnes ensured Man. City remain three points behind the Blues on the table while Burnley remain in the relegation zone, though just a point off safety.

For Man. City that still is without a fit first-team striker, it’s the end of a nine-match winning streak in all competitions at the hands of an unlikely opponent.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Newcastle United came from a goal down to overcome Everton 3-2 at St. James Park, ending a run of four successive losses for Alan Pardew’s side.

Meanwhile Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck scored in the first half as Arsenal held on to claim a second 2-1 win in as many matches – this time at London rivals West Ham United.

The result at Boleyn Park saw the Gunners rise to fifth place with 33 points, behind Southampton on goal difference, while West Ham slipped a place to sixth with 31 points.

Ten-man Aston Villa held on for a goalless draw at home to Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace also played out a goalless draw at Loftus Road while Mame Biram Diouf scored twice as Stoke City won 2-0 at home to West Brom.
