Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has received an order for 24 CRJ900 NextGen regional jets worth a total of $1.14 billion, the industry giant said Tuesday.

An anonymous buyer purchased the CRJ900 planes, which can transport as many as 90 passengers for up to 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles).

Bombardier said the aircraft was one of the most cost-efficient on the market.

“With its demonstrated reliability and low fuel consumption, the CRJ900 NextGen regional is recognized as the most cost-efficient jet aircraft in its class,” said Ray Jones, senior vice president of sales and marketing.

He added the aircraft was the “ideal tool for operators looking at further increasing the efficiency of their fleets.”

With this latest request, Montreal-based Bombardier has now received a total of 1,858 firm orders for CRJ series aircraft, including 384 CRJ900s and CRJ900 NextGen planes.

The company said its CRJ planes are used by about 60 airlines worldwide.
