Nigerian Senate Leader from Cross River State, Victor Ndoma-Egba, said he would not defect from the Peoples Democratic Party despite pressures on him from an opposition political party to join its fold.

The senator, who was denied his party’s ticket to return to the senate, stated this in a New Year message to Nigerians.

He also asked the citizenry to massively vote for the ruling PDP in next year’s general elections.

He also urged the Nigerian electorate to pray for the success of the 2015 general elections and ensured that they protect their votes to avoid any form of rigging.

The Senate Leader also seized the opportunity to reiterate that he remained a loyal member of the PDP, despite the fact that he was in fact, approached by an opposition party to dump his party.

He pledged to remain in the PDP and work for its victory in next year’s elections at all levels.

Ndoma-Egba admitted that although there were pockets of dissension in the party across the federation, the PDP is still the strongest party to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians.

He said, “First and foremost, we thank God that despite all the challenges we encountered as a country in 2014, we are still standing strong.

“Secondly, I want Nigerians to know that there is no country that does not have challenges but what counts is that those challenges are surmounted.

“There were reports last week that I was approached by an opposition. Well, the fact of the matter is that I remain in PDP and as a loyal party member, I will work to ensure the victory of my party at all levels in the 2015 polls.

“As we usher in a new year in a few hours, my prayer is that Nigerians will be united, much in the same way we addressed the Ebola virus disease when it landed on our shores. I wish Nigerians a prosperous and fulfilled 2015.”

Ndoma-Egba’s colleague who was equally denied the PDP ticket in the state, Senator Bassey Otu, has since announced his decision to dump the PDP.
