The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Sokoto state held at midnight Monday amidst allegations of irregularities.

Former minister Yusuf Suleiman, a governorship aspirant led a boycott of the exercise.

Suleiman said that due process was not followed during the party congress that was held to elect delegates.

“The entire exercise was a total disgrace to the party as people were just handpicked to be delegates”, he said.

Suleiman said he has already notified the party headquarters about this development and as a loyal member he would wait for their response.

He said that the election of party officials and ad-hoc delegates was replete with infractions of the party constitution.

He explained that it was as a result of this development that that he has decided to boycott the exercise and ask that his name be left out of those participating in the exercise unless the anomalies are remedied.

Barrister Mukhtari Shagari also alleged that ‘illegal’ delegates were used in the election.

Shagari ordered his supporters to vacate the Stadium, venue of the election when results were declared by the Chairman of the primary election committee, Sen. U. U. Dukku.

In the controversial results, Amb. Abdallah Wali was said to have scored 547 votes, Sen. Abubakar Gada, 193 votes and Mukhtari Shagari was given 1 vote.

Briefing news men, Shagari described the election as “out-right illegality” and called on the National Secretariat of the party to cancel the primary election.
