Senator Gemade: joins APC from PDP

Senator Barnabas Gemade has quit the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the opposition All Progressives Congress.

Gemade, the second chairman of the PDP, after the pioneering effort by Chief Solomon Lar, is the incumbent senator representing Benue North East district.

He recently withdrew from the PDP senatorial primary that would have given him a second term ticket to contest the election next year. Governor Gabriel Suswam has been declared the candidate to replace him.

Gemade, 66 years old, however crossed over to the APC to become the party’s senatorial candidate for Benue North East district.

But in Lagos Wednesday night at the Convention of the APC, Gemade surfaced as one of the delegates from Benue.

Party chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun announced his presence and told thousands of party faithful, that ‘your party is growing in leaps and bounds’.

He is not the only convert from the PDP in recent weeks.

In Kebbi state, Senator Atiku Bagudu also quit the PDP to team up with the APC. He quit with 10 members of the House of Assembly in the state.

Bagudu is now the governorship candidate of the APC for Kebbi.
