The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State says Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the gubernatorial candidate of the party for the 2015 elections in the state.

In a statement signed in Enugu on Wednesday by the Publicity Secretary, Dr Okey Eze, the party dismissed claims by Sen. Ayogu Eze that he was the sole candidate of the party for the 2015 gubernatorial election.

The statement said the Dec. 8 primaries, which brought Ugwuanyi as the candidate of the party, was monitored by INEC as well as the electoral panel from the party headquarters.

According to it, the bodies authorised by the party, the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2010 to organise and supervise the elections, were all absent at the parallel election where Eze emerged as the winner.

“The PDP has an established procedure for electing gubernatorial candidates and has followed it religiously and methodically to a conclusive end with Ugwuanyi emerging as the candidate for Enugu State,’’ the statement said.

It said that aggrieved aspirants on the outcome of the primary should channel their reports to the appeal committee set up by the party.

The statement called on the party faithful and the public to disregard the claim as it was aimed at causing crisis in the party.
