A resident of 6, GRA, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, Adeola is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal trespass, theft and cheating by impersonation with the prosecutor, Cpl. Israel Nongo, telling the court that one Dr. Afuye Samuel of Ode-Ekiti, Ekiti State reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on 7 January.

The prosecutor also told the court that the accused person trespassed into the complainant’s house and stole the complainant’s certificates in July, 2014.

Nongo listed the certificates as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery of University of Lagos, NYSC discharge certificate, certificate of local government of origin and WAEC certificate.

Other stolen items, according to him, included First School Leaving Certificate and Primary School Testimonial, certificate of annual practising licence and certificate of provisional registration as a medical practitioner, among others.

Nongo added that the accused person ran to Abuja from Ekiti State and used the said certificates to secure a job at Luna Hospital, Gwarinpa as a medical practitioner.

“The accused also claimed the nominal complainant’s full names as it appeared on the certificates and took the complainant’s license to Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for renewal,” he said.

He further said that the complainant got a call from the council to renew his license which he had applied for, which also revealed to the complainant that the accused person was using his license.

He said that the offences committed contravened sections 348, 288 and 324 of the penal code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko granted the accused bail in the sum of N300, 000 with a surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case has been adjourned to 13 February.
