The floor of the Senate was Wednesday thrown into chaos as senators on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, staged a walk-out after the leadership of the upper chamber confirmed controversial former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

The confirmation on Wednesday was the third attempt after the senate made two futile attempts to confirm him but was opposed by some members of the legislative chamber due to the controversial role played by the former Minister in the alleged rigging of Ekiti State governorship election in 2014.

His name was among a list of nominees sent by President Goodluck Jonathan to the Senate for confirmation for the second time after Obanikoro had earlier resigned to contest for the governorship election of Lagos State.

A leaked audio recording of a meeting Obanikoro and other top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party held with an Army General for the purpose of rigging the election was leaked by an Army captain who is currently on the run for his life.

At the Senate on Wednedsay, the leadership and members on the platform of the PDP cleared Obanikoro despite shouts of Point of Order by members including Bukola Saraki and others.

The angry members staged the walk-out after Obanikoro was asked to take a bow and go as customary of former senators screened for appointments.
