APC Wins Kwara Governorship Poll

The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Kwara state, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who is also the incumbent governor, has been declared winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to the Returning Officer of the election in the state, Professor Musbau Akanji, after collating the election results as brought by the Collating Officers from the 16 local government areas of the state, Governor Ahmed polled a total number of 295, 832 votes to defeat Senator Simeon Ajibola of the Peoples Democratic Partu, PDP, who polled 115, 220 votes, while Dr. Mike Omotosho of the Labour Party, LP, scored 2, 973 votes.

The scores as announced by the INEC returning officer showed that Governor Ahmed won in all the 16 local government areas of the state as shown below:

According to Professor Akanji, the total number of registered voters was 1,171, 561, total number of accredited voters was 455, 397, total number of valid votes was 419, 633, total number of rejected votes was 14, 721 and total number of votes cast was 434, 354.

The returning officer said the APC candidate satisfied the two conditions of having highest number of votes cast and also secured 25 per cent in two-third of the 16 local government areas of the state.
