Nigeria’s U-23 national team have qualified for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo following a 2-1 win over Zambia in a final qualifying round second leg match in Lusaka on Sunday.

Having drawn in the first leg, a goal in each half from striker Taiwo Awoniyi saw the Dream Team VI secure a hard earned win at the National Heroes Stadium.

Zambia came close to breaking the deadlock a quarter into the match only to be denied by the crossbar, with Awoniyi going on to give Samson Siasia’s side the lead after 34 minutes.

Substitute Friday Samu drew a save from Nigeria’s Daniel Emmanuel in the 54th minute as Zambia laid siege on the Dream Team VI goal in search of an equaliser.

That pressure paid off with 13 minutes to go, as Samu beat Daniel from close range after being set up by Shadreck Malambo.

Zambian joy was however shortlived as Awoniyi struck with four minutes to go, while Daniel denied Moses Phiri moments later at the other end as Nigeria held on for the win.
