Yahuza Bello wins BUK race for vice-chancellorship

Bayero University, Kano, BUK, northwest Nigeria on Tuesday got a new Vice Chancellor when Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello emerged with a landslide victory scoring 834 votes.

He defeated other 10 Professors who contested with him.

Going by his victory, Prof. Bello’s name will be forwarded to BUK’s Governing Council for rectification, after which the Governing Council will forward his name to the presidency for endorsement.

Before now, Prof. Bello was the Director, Project Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of the University.

About 1187 votes were cast during the peacefully conducted election.

Other candidates who contested along-side the victorious Vice Chancellor include, Prof. Mohammed Abdullahi, 36 votes; Prof. Mohammada Sani Sule, 116 votes; Prof. Muhammad Dahiru Suleiman, 102 votes; Pprof. Lawal Danladi, 17 votes.

Other are Prof. Kamilu Sani Fagge, 61 votes; and Prof. Abdulraman Adejo Audu, 17 votes.

Prof. Bello is set to succeed the out-going Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed who has spent five years as Vice Chancellor of the University and will bid farewell to BUK by August.
