The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar on Monday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to not just ensure that all those found culpable of corruption forfeit their assets, but are also sent to jail.

The Sultan who was a keynote speaker at a one day security summit organized by the Nigeria Police Force and The Sun newspapers in Abuja also called on the federal and state governments to face the task of reforming and re-positioning all national institutions; including the Nigeria Police force and related agencies.

“It is imperative, to ensure that our security agencies truly become 21st century organizations able to discharge their mandates effectively and efficiently. We should be able to cater to their operational needs and to the welfare of their members. When we state that they serve and protect, we should mean it by word and deed,” said the Sultan.

The Sultan also said all the security agencies must be committed members of the war against corruption.

“Secondly, our national security agencies must join the crusade against corruption, with commitment and determination. Regardless of how well trained and equipped an organization is, it cannot attain its full potential if it allows corruption and corrupt elements to grace its corridors.”

“Those who conspire to corrupt our national institutions from the outside must face the same consequences as those who do it from within.

“All found culpable of corruption should not only forfeit their assets, but must go to jail”, the Sultan who was a member of national peace committee who have come under criticism after they visited President Muhammadu Buhari last week said.

This is over suspicions that members of the Committee had during the visit tried to dissuade the President from going ahead with the ongoing probe of officials of former President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Members of the Committee have denied appealing to the President to let Jonathan or his aides off the hook of the probe of corruption, but stressed that rule of law must be observed in the war against a graft, a recommendation that has further incensed some Nigerians.

But as if emphasizing that he will never be part of such call, the Sultan further declared that: “I am in full support of the war against corruption in this country.”
