A university in Vancouver Canada,  Kwantlen Polytechnic University has introduced a new course on a subject most universities will never touch: creating and running your own Marijuana business.

The catchily named course, ‘Introduction to Professional Management of Marijuana for Medical Purposes in Canada’  will instruct students on all the fundamentals of operating a marijuana business, as well as the stuff they need to know to grow high quality weed, the  UK Metro newspaper  reported.

Twelve students have already signed up for the course, which costs $1,249

It’s a fourteen week online course, split into four modules: plant production, legalities and regulations, marketing and sales, and medical conditions and drug development.

The focus is on medical marijuana, which is the only type legal in Canada, rather than the recreational stuff.

The idea, according to the course director Tegan Adams, is to get people interested in growing weed out of the dodgy illegal stuff and into the medical scene, with the course maintaining a heavy emphasis on all the rules and regulations surrounding legal weed production.

Adams says: ‘If you want to do that illegally, I’m sure there are many ways to look into that, but if you want to comply with federal guidelines and be part of a growing industry, that’s more the audience we are looking at.’
