Kidnap suspects arrested along Bode Sadu Road, Ilorin

The new Commissioner of Police in Kwara state, Esosa Amadasun, with the latest feat by his Command, is not leaving any stone unturned to put criminals to rout in the state.

The Kwara state police command is basking in another big haul of the arrested 17 criminal suspects that are cooling their heels at its headquarters for offences ranging from admission racketeering, cattle rustling, printing of fake police recruitment forms, cultism to highway robbery.

Briefing journalists in Ilorin, while parading the suspects, the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Esosa Amadasun, opined that the arrest would send a signal to criminals and law breakers alike that “it is no longer business as usual,” adding that in as much as the command is duty bound to protect citizens’ lives and property, the police would not shirk in their responsibility to deal with criminals according to the laws of the country.

Amadasun disclosed that while on intelligence gathering exercise, the operatives of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested one Ibrahim Oladele who allegedly specialised in obtaining money from unsuspecting people seeking admission into universities and other tertiary institutions in the state. He said: “The news of his arrest has attracted some of his victims among who was one Olawuyi Olufemi who the suspect has fleeced of the sum of N450, 000 with the promise of securing for him University of Ilorin admission where the suspect claimed he was a lecturer.”

Aside the arrest of four suspected kidnappers whose names were given as Muritala Rabiu, Ibrahim Maman, Ibrahim Abubakar and Kessi Mohammed, the CP said the Command’s Anti-Cultism team rounded up four members of Eiye Confraternity in the process of initiating three students of Government Day Secondary School, Oloje in Ilorin at an abandoned poultry farm behind the school. Items recovered from the kidnappers include a Honda motorcycle with registration No Ogun FFF 172 VT, an unregistered motorcycle, an axe, three mask caps and an empty cartridge.

Also nabbed were three cattle rustlers, Isiaka Azeez, Rafiu Jare and Yawu Ibrahim, who carted away two cows belonging to Umaru Adamu from a Fulani camp in Offa. They were reported to have confessed to the crime, while also stating that their main business way cattle rustling.
While four people, Abubakar Mohammed, Mohammed Maisamari, Baba Daji and Shehu Abubakar, were in the police net for highway robbery, the police boss said the one that triggered his anger most was the arrest of a fake police recruitment forms’ printer in Ilorin despite the Police press release warning against the sales of fake Police forms to unsuspecting members of the public which was transmitted by media houses in the state on the implications of such unlawful act.

Amadasun said the items recovered from the suspect whose name was given as Isah Samuel Ade-Jimoh include four printed fake police recruitment forms, one laptop, two central processing units, one monitor and two universal modems as well as other documents suspected to have been faked.

He further disclosed the arrest of Usman Mohammed who connived with an anonymous caller that used an unregistered GSM number to call one Mohammed Keremi, threatening to kidnap him if he failed to pay a ransom of N1 million. He said the suspect later collected the sum of N100, 000 from his brother to give to the unknown kidnappers but he absconded with the money to an unknown destination raising suspicion that he connived with the hoodlums.
