Maku: loses to Al-Makura

Governor Tanko Al-Makura’s election last April has been confirmed by the Election Tribunal.

Mr. Labaran Maku, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, had sought to upturn the victory, when he filed a challenge at the tribunal.

But the tribunal, sitting in Lafia, capital of the state dismissed his petition for lack of merit.

Justice Halima Mohammed the Chairman of the tribunal said: “the petitioner has failed to prove the alleged malpractices, non-compliance with the electoral 2010 as amended, guidelines of the election and other relevant laws.

She said  only did  the petitioner fail to prove the non-compliance with the relevant laws, he also  failed to prove that the non-compliance has substantially affected the outcome of the election.

“Based on that, I therefore strike out the petition filed by Labaran Maku   of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against Umaru Al-Makura of All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the result declared by INEC in April, Governor Al-Makura  polled 309,746 votes, winning in 12 out of the 13 Local Government Areas.

Maku of APGA came second with 178,983 votes.

The APC also won 19 out of the 24 seats at the State House of Assembly while the PDP won five seats.
