Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State

The Police in Nigeria have confirmed the kidnapping on Wednesday morning of a Special Adviser  to Governor  Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, less than 24 hours after the governor launched his re-election campaign.

The kidnapped aide  is  Mr Fyneman Wilson, special adviser on Political Matters.

Wilson was reportedly abducted with his Personal Assistant at his residence in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa.

“Five gunmen went to the residence of Hon. Wilson Fyneman at Sagbama Town, in Sagbama Local Government Area and abducted him with his Personal Assistant Mr Fred, to an unknown destination.

“The Marine Police, JTF and the Anti-kidnapping unit have been alerted; efforts have been intensified to rescue the victims and arrest the abductors.

“ Investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesman said.

Several kidnap incidents had occurred in the state in the past few weeks,  with three monarchs still being held by their abductors.

Governor Dickson launched his re-election campaign on Tuesday.
