National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS,Ogun state chapter has dissociated itself from the award recently presented to Senator Buruji Kashamu, the lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District by the National President of the body.
In a release on Monday by the students’ body and signed by the Ogun state Chairman, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, the NANS branch queried the rationale behind giving such award to a man of questionable character like Kashamu.
It described the presentation as a show of shame and reiterated its support for the anti corruption crusade of President Muhammed Buhari.
The NANS/JCC Ogun chapter however called on the Federal government to expedite action on the extradition of the lawmaker to face his case in the US.
“Our attention has been drawn to an ignominious NANS award presented to Senator Buruji Kashamu representing Ogun east senatorial district by our sinking National President,Titanic Usman.
“This incidence is terribly disturbing to all sane minds and is capable of drawing the anti corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari backward, when men of questionable character like Kashamu, who is wanted by American authorities for drug crimes are celebrated by the apex students body.
“We sincerely ask what is so golden about Kashamu? is it because he is a drug baron or the fact that he murdered the PDP in the southwest.?
“What has Kashamu done to Nigerian Students domiciled in Ogun state to merit such award, as even in his immediate environment, he has not been able to donate a single toilet to schools like Olabisi Onabanjo University,OOU,Ago Iwoye or Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, AAP,Ijebu Igbo, not to mention other schools in his Senatorial District like TASUED.
“The leadership of NANS JCC OGUN AXIS led by COMRADE DOTUN OPALEYE hereby dissociate itself from this show of shame and reiterate our support for the anti corruption campaign of Mr President. The era of impunity has gone with the PDP government,”Dotun Opaleye said.
