A 26-year old man, Somadina Enyiobi, has been jailed for two years without an option of fine after he confessed that he specialised in Snatching SUV in Lagos State Western Nigeria.
Oraifiti, Anambra State-born Enyiobi was arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrate’s court with Conspiracy and stealing. He pleaded guilty.
Enyiobi’s journey to prison started on Monday after he went to 2 Fire Nnanka Street in Green Estate at Ago Palace and stole a Venza SUV parked in the compound. The vehicle with registration number KSF 203 DA belongs to one Godwin Chukwudum who resides there. According to Enyiobi, he went there with two of his gang members he identified as Uchechukwu and Emmanuel and forced Chukwudum’s house girl to bring the key of the SUV to them.
He said when she refused, they threatened to kill her, and she eventually showed them where the key was kept. He said they collected the key, tied the house girl’s mouth, legs and mouth and locked her inside the flat and left. He said he entered the SUV to drive it out of the estate, while his other members went outside waiting for him.
However, luck ran out on him when he approached the security gate in the estate. The security men on duty who knew the owner of the SUV asked him where he was going with it; he was unable to give a satisfactory answer.
The owner who had gone to work was immediately contacted and he came and confirmed that Enyiobi stole the vehicle. He was handed over to the police at Ago palace division who charged him to court, while other gang members are now at large.
The prosecutor, Inspector Aboyomi Abass, urged the court, despite that the man did not waste the time of the court by pleading guilty; the court should sentence him to serve as deterrent to others. Consequently, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Adebayo sentenced him accordingly
